Following his spear tackle on Chiefs halfback Augustine Pulu in a preseason fixture against the Chiefs and his subsequent hearing, Hurricanes flank Ardie Savea will only return to action against the Kings in Wellington on the 30th of March.

He was cited by Judicial Officer Nigel Hampton QC under law 10.4 (j) for a lifting tackle and faces a stern ban considering the infringement was in a warm-up match. Nigel Hampton found the tackle “to be in the mid-range of seriousness.”

The Chiefs came out on top winning by 25 points to 21 but Ardie’s tackle could end up more costly as he will miss a series of crucial fixtures against the Blues (23rd Feb), Reds (1st March), Crusaders (8th March) and the Highlanders (15th March.)

Wow, from a preseason warm-up game. That must be a first?
