Outright Rugby

Is it safe to rule the Springboks out of RWC 2015 contention?

It must be said that Heyneke Meyer coaches with a heavy hand. His forcefully imposed tactical approach defines the Springbok team and its strengths and weaknesses on the field.

Is it safe to consider the Springboks out of RWC contention based on their outdated tactical approach of kicking away possession even when outside of their own 22 or half in a trade-off for a territorial gain on the premise and execution of excellent defense? The Stormers have proven that defense wins logs but not trophies over the last few seasons and are the Springboks about to fall into this same mold to become a highly consistent team, almost certain to make the quarter-finals or semi-finals but from there be found out of attacking prowess?

Is Rugby Union at the highest level going to evolve further, to a point where defense and territory are key as they were 3 or 4 years ago? Or has defense achieved all that it can in becoming all that it can be?
